“Anomalous experience” refers to one of a variety of experiences that appear to be inconsistent with consensus reality. They are more common than modern Western culture wants to admit.
Types of anomalous experiences:
- Psychic experiences (psi phenomena) such as telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition
- Afterlife communication
- Encounters with non-human intelligence
- UFO / UAP encounters
- Out-of-body experiences
- Near-death experiences
- Mystical experiences
- Past-life memories
- Other phenomena that might be called “paranormal”
In working with a client who has had such an experience, my role is to help them to get curious, move toward greater understanding of the impact, and develop constructive ways to move forward. An anomalous experience can significantly affect an individual’s psyche, relationships, health, and daily activities. When a client is in some degree of shock about what has happened, questions such as “Was it real?” and “What do I do with this?” need to be dealt with.
Regression hypnosis is one tool that can help to uncover more details from a particular experience. In a regression session, the client enters a relaxed and focused state where memories and insights can emerge. As things come to light, further coaching can help to make the information useful.
The IFS model of working with issues is non-pathologizing, and this is an important point in dealing with the aftermath of extraordinary experiences. The strange phenomena that many of us have experienced can lead to perceptions, memories, and reactions that might be mistaken for a form of mental illness. Such a diagnosis might be premature or unhelpful in processing the experience. Together, we can sort that out.
I’m also an experiencer of several of the phenomena listed above. I understand what it’s like to not know who you can tell, and how much to disclose. With coaching in effective tools of inquiry and developing internal and community resources, you can breathe easier, learn how to integrate these experiences, and move on with your life.
